September project meeting

Posted on 15 October 2010 by

Since our previous meeting at the end of June, the project team have been busy in various ways working on developing wireframes for the new online resource, further examining the writing on the map, and representing 'Linguistic Geographies' at international conferences - no summer holidays for us! At the meeting we also discussed the project colloquium and exhibition, which will mark the end of the funded research. The colloquium call for papers will be uploaded soon onto the web site, and sent out far and wide - the theme is 'The Language of Maps', and the event will be held at the Bodleian Library, Oxford, from Thursday June 23 to Saturday June 25, 2011 - more details soon. The team is now busy with completing the online database, which involves finalising descriptions of the map's palaeography for all of its place-names, as well as working on the digital map image - a new scan - and in particular extracting each place-icon and associated writing ready to be added to the online database, so that it will be possible to look at the map's imagery and text side by side - useful for exploring the map's textual and visual language...
